Quick post for the “Characters” series to open 2025, about the most constructive thing I did between Christmas and New Year’s: piece together my elite eight D&D/BG3 characters in Lego. Since both D&D and Lego function best when “throwing away the rulebook to make up your own stuff” they’re definitely two great things that go great together.
I figured this would be a fun, breezy way to depict my made-up faves without making A Whole Content Post about it. It’s also way less expensive than HeroForge, less morally murky than Midjourney, and less screen-timey than Baldur’s Gate 3 (though I may have more on that topic later).
So, I did this via cannibalizing the official D&D Lego set, browsing Lego’s incredibly addictive Pick-a-Brick website feature, and creating custom cloaks and capes (emulating these) with lots of spousal help and scrap fabric. There’s no easy way to make a drow elf without custom pieces, so I did it via this site.
I’m not gonna spend hundreds of dollars to make Shackleton’s ship, but I will do this, because creating your own heroes is always better than playing with someone else’s. Et voila: my bard, rogue, monk, ranger(s), drow warlock, cleric, and druid.
