Project

A hospitality map illustration of the grounds at Inn at the Mission San Juan Capistrano, highlighting the hotel’s curated collection of local color: artwork, historical figures, and commemorative monuments.

The Inn at the Mission, a hotel next to Mission San Juan Capistrano, needed a “Storyteller’s Map” to help facilitate self-guided tours for guests during their stay and serve as a jumping-off point for further discovery and exploration in downtown San Juan and the surrounding area.

I created two panels for a letter-sized bifold brochure: one with the map and one as a front/back cover. The horizontal grounds map showcased eight historical items around the property, all with descriptions and thumbnail snapshots, corresponding to eight icons placed on or near those items’ locations.

For the layout, I combined a caption style from a previous editorial project with a graphic style from a previous education institutional project (again: never start from a blank canvas!), branding everything with the hotel’s exact color palette and typography (and some variations thereof).
