A double-sided trifold business listings brochure featuring several maps depicting neighborhoods in the Chicago-area municipality of Homewood, Illinois.
The Village of Homewood sought a comprehensive collateral piece to promote local businesses in two neighborhoods: the Downtown area (with an inset focusing on the core business district at the intersection of Ridge Road and Dixie Highway) and the Southgate area, alongside alphabetized/categorical listings for both.
I created not only the brochure itself—layout and design for both sides, using InDesign—but the underlying vector base map (using Illustrator). This base map was a composite in which I aligned three separate GIS-to-PDF exports (city limits, streets, and buildings) plus more additions per client request (street parking, rail lines, parking lots).
The base map was far larger than what the brochure showed, and since it may be used in future such projects for other parts of Homewood, the client agreed to purchase my working files should they proceed with those projects in-house. Never give away your working files for free, folks!
For the design itself, I combined ideas from previous municipal-like projects with styles from previous Village of Homewood collateral, and stuck closely to their brand guide’s suggested colors and typefaces, tweaking things here and there to suit the layout.
